VIVO FINE ART

The Beginnings, Summer 2010

Mission Statement

Vivo Fine Art is located at 105-A Mill Hill Road, in a pre-Civil War barn formerly belonging to the Riseley family of Woodstock. During the spring and early summer of 2010, the space was converted into an art gallery. Erica Danielle Franz, an artist now based in Maui, HI, painted the walls in a stunning lavender and white animal-inspired motif.

Gallerists Marco Ferrero (owner) and Jenn Glickman (curator) named the gallery “Vivo,” meaning, “I live.” They are dedicating Vivo Fine Art to the example set by Jennifer Hoffmann, Glickman’s step sister. For nine years, until April 2009, Hoffmann courageously lived and thrived in the face of a mortal battle with breast cancer. The gallerists intend to champion vibrant artists from around the country and showcase their work in Woodstock—a town in which both Ferrero and Glickman have lived since 2007.

Vivo’s totem is the hummingbird, which has the largest proportion of heart to body mass of any living species. It is therefore perfectly emblematic of the new endeavor. Vivo Fine Art plans monthly gallery talks, a music series, and children’s programs during the winter. A portion of the gallery’s profits will be donated annually to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Marco Ferrero, Owner

Marco Ferrero was born in Rome, Italy of an American mother and Italian father. His family moved to the U.S. in 1971, when Marco was two. Growing up in Connecticut, Ferrero thought he was going to be an actor—but he started playing bass guitar at the age of thirteen. In the late 1980s he began producing psychedelic light shows. When raves took off in the 1990s his company, Optical Delusion, was at the forefront of the scene, lighting such venues as Limelight, Twilo, Wetlands and Tunnel. More recent gigs include producing a film to accompany Elton John’s “Empty Garden,” at the musician’s 60th Madison Square Garden performance on his 60th birthday; producing a light show for Albert Hofmann’s 100th birthday in Basel, Switzerland; staging the light show for the 40th anniversary celebration in Las Vegas of Ken Kesey’s first Acid Test; and producing visuals for many other national music festivals.

Ferrero has lived in Woodstock for the past three years. He is inspired by the town and wants not only to support artists of his acquaintance, but to introduce them to the town that he loves.

Jenn Glickman, Curator

Jenn Glickman grew up in the Bronx, New York. With her parents’ encouragement she early on plunged into after-school arts and theater-related activities. Her passion for the arts continued through college and in 1998 she degreed in Drama and Dance at Bard College in upstate New York. During 1999 she continued her studies at NYU and took classes in arts administration. In May 2006 she completed her Masters at Pratt, in Arts and Cultural Management.

Jenn has spent the majority of her working life in the non-profit sector. Assignments have included stints as company manager for the Tony Award-winning Berkeley Repertory Theater, and as tour manager for the Parsons Dance Company. She also served as Coordinator, Education Programs, at the Aperture Foundation. Most recently, Jenn was the tour manager for Pete Seeger and his grandson, Tao Rodriquez. She helped to conceive and produce Pete’s 90th birthday celebration at Madison Square Garden. She also organized, traveled with and coordinated all arrangements for Seeger’s now legendary performance at the National Mall with Bruce Springsteen for the “We Are One” concert in honor of Barack Obama’s Inaugural.
